Color

Different from the dispersion of a diamond, Color refers to the actual color of the diamond itself. Due to nitrogen that is present in the diamond when it forms in the earth, there are natural tinges of color in the diamond’s body (ranging from yellow to brown to gray). To maximize a diamond’s value, it is preferred that it has the least possible color showing. This is because more light can pass though a diamond when there’s less color, displaying more brilliance and dispersion as a result. When there is little to no color on the diamond, a rainbow of colors can be reflected off of it better. 

Color Grading:  

The higher a diamond’s color grade is, the less color it innately has, and therefore the higher quality it is. Color Grading ranges from D-Z, wherein the closer the grading is to D, the better, and vice-versa.
